The Cousin Code

Political commentator, legal analyst and "Native Land Pod" host Angela Rye joins Michael Harriot to talk about how her policy and legislative experience informs her political perspective.

While you might know Angela Rye from her work as a political commentator, host and clapback specialist, her background includes years of experience in policy, advocacy and political strategy.

After finishing law school, she began working in legislative advocacy at an umbrella association for all 120 HBCUs. eventually serving as the executive director and general counsel to the Congressional Black Caucus and senior policy advisor for the House Committee on Homeland Security. Perhaps her most amazing feat was convincing a TV network to hire a journalist with no television writing experience as the head writer for the network’s election specials.

Some guy named Michael Harriot.

ContrabandCamp is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Years after certifying their cousinship, Angela sat down with Michael to discuss the current state of politics from an insider’s perspective. They also dismantle myths about Black people’s relationship with the Democratic Party, the unseen side of politics and how everyday citizens can affect political change

Note: Michael’s shirt and other ContrabandCamp-themed merchandise are available in our camp store.
