Elon Musk Is a Menace
Apartheid Clyde is destroying our government fueled by his own twisted, racist worldview.
Elon Musk descended upon us with the same subtlety as bird shit. One day, we’re walking around oblivious, and the next, we are covered in Elon Musk news, trying to figure out how to get it off our blazer.
The foreign-born, enigmatic billionaire didn’t create his wealth. Instead, he followed the all-American blueprint of writing his name on the group project and taking all the credit for it. As the fictional-yet-presidentially appointed position of head meddler at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk hit the ground running with a goofy band of young, nerdy fans turned nerdy hitmen that have single-handedly run up into government buildings and shut things down.
Their talking point is that they’re reducing federal spending while making sure people of color no longer have access to gainful employment, No, seriously, they’ve been hell-bent on ending any and all diversity, equity and inclusion positions because – the way they see it – why employ a person of color when a mediocre white man is right here?!
In one of its first acts, DOGE strong-armed the U.S. Agency for International Development, halting global programs and leaving thousands of workers – both in the U.S. and abroad – bracing for what’s been rumored as a complete shutdown of the independent agency, with plans to move what’s left of it under the State Department. (A judge’s order has blocked the Trump administration’s plans to put USAID staff on leave – for now.)
Musk continues to make news with his coup-like management style, which includes running up into buildings and having some skinny dude with a bandage on his neck guarding the front door to prevent members of Congress from entering the building.
With Trump’s approval, Musk offered buyouts to federal employees, and DOGE temporarily gained access to the Treasury Department payment system — before a judge ultimately blocked it. Because nothing says, “We gave the robbers the keys,” like a private citizen with access to the federal system that pays America’s bills. With USAID frozen, Musk set his sights on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, just the agency that protects folks from financial dubiousness like Trump’s steaks. Why would Americans need to make sure that credit card offers and home loans are fair and just? Doge and Russell Vought, the interim head of CFPB and one of the architects of Project 2025, shut down the agency, telling staffers to stay at home. DOGE now has access to CFPB’s internal computer systems and has deleted the agency's social media accounts.
And all of this, all of this alleged cost-cutting, federal meddling, life-altering hatchet job, is the work of an idiotic billionaire who was not elected or confirmed by Congress.
And yet, here we are.
Like the current president, Musk is hell-bent on power. Together, under the tenet of aligned hatred (which is really where Musk and the president’s Venn diagram overlap), they extoll the principles of white supremacy. But there are fundamental differences between the two. Musk isn’t just racist…
He is racism.
In its purest most vile form.
He’s South African, which is so racist that even America is like, “We’re racist, but not, ‘imprison Mandela for life’ racist.”
Musk is racism personified. It’s so embedded in his foundation that his company was found guilty of systemic racism. His wealth was derived from Black people's labor. He’s whitewashed history so much so that he pretends that he had this difficult upbringing that required pulling and bootstraps.
He loves "free speech” for those who look like him and share his brand of hate. But he’s got so much money that he can buy free speech just to silence his critics. He doesn’t just own X (formerly Twitter); he uses it to further falsehoods about government agencies and the white supremacist race science theory that Black people have low IQs. He’s invaded the government to rid the ranks of anyone he deems nonessential, especially those fighting for equal rights — or, as it’s been abbreviated, DEI. And he’s doing all of this because, like others in the Trump administration, he truly believes it’s their job to preserve the white race. So he despises anyone who attempts to address issues of equity or inclusion and calls them "divisive" or "woke."
He is the living embodiment of how America treats racism. But you don't have to call him racist, because …
Elon Musk IS RACISM.
Since no one in this administration bothered to read the instructions before starting the game, this learn-as-we-go dismantling of the federal government has gone as smooth as a cobblestoned driveway.
And yet, Musk, a private citizen, has all this power, all this access to Americans' most private information. A billionaire with businesses that receive funding from the federal government; a man with a vested interest in opponents' finances now may have access to his competitors' records.
But MAGA Americans keep making excuses for Musk because that is the way that racism survives. It’s never the police overly abusing authority in Black and brown communities, it’s always “why didn’t the person comply with the unlawful order.” Racism doesn’t work if everyone can admit that a Nazi salute is, in fact, a Nazi salute. But when you have the Anti-Defamation League coming to your defense, well, then racism not only survives, it swells.
“This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety,” the anti-defamation non-profit wrote in a post on X. “It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge.”
But that is the way that racism works. It is sustained by its apologists and enablers. It persists because of public approval. As long as the people driving the hate bus get what they want, they don’t care who is thrown under it.
As it stands, the America is careening toward the edge of darkness. And you know who loves it? America.
Trump’s approval rating is as high as Snoop Dogg sitting on a giraffe’s back.
From CNBC:
President Donald Trump received one of his highest job approval ratings in his decade long political career, after he kicked off his second term with a flurry of executive actions.
A new CBS News/YouGov poll found that 53% of U.S. adults approved of Trump’s overall job in office so far.
Most respondents said they would describe the 78-year-old Trump as “effective,” “focused,” “tough,” “competent” and “energetic,” though just 37% said they viewed him as “compassionate.”
A large majority, 70%, said they believe Trump is doing what he promised during the 2024 campaign.
And that’s the rub. Racism always wins because racism is baked into the pie. It’s the main ingredient in the recipe, and those who approve of it and benefit from it will never object. Even if racism poisoning their country, they like the way the poison tastes. To them, racism is sweet.
Musk was merely a run-of-the-mill racist before his presidential appointment, but with the power vested in him by Trump, he’s become the personification of this poison. He’s become the system. Let’s not forget that Musk is just a businessman who has not been asked to give up any interest in his outside affairs or publicly disclose his finances with the full blessing of white supremacy’s lord and savior.
He was in the Oval Office on Tuesday, holding a press conference with the president, and not one reporter asked the private citizen (did I mention that he’s never been confirmed by Congress?) what the hell he was doing there.
Fortunately, America’s Musk problem will eventually solve itself. We might not even have to wait for white America to realize they’ve been poisoned. Even though he is surrounded by thugs and felons, if Musk had ever served time in the pen or had a conversation with a Black man, he’d know that one of the tenets in the 48 Laws of Power is that you “never outshine the master.” And this Time magazine cover is doing the lord’s work. It will only be a matter of time before Musk is banished from the kingdom, but we can only hope he doesn’t leave with all our private information stored on his personal hard drive.
That’s probably where they saved the racism recipe.
That buzz you're hearing, Stephen, is well-earned applause. Sheer excellence, bae. (Apartheid Clyde? Sold.)
These kinds of clear-eyed observances should be more the rule than the exception in today's political media. So, thanks for it. Appetites are whetted.
Great summary of what's happened. To date, at least...
This quote rang my bell:
"But MAGA Americans keep making excuses for Musk because that is the way that racism survives. It’s never the police overly abusing authority in Black and brown communities, it’s always “why didn’t the person comply with the unlawful order.”"
The whole revolting "Blue LIves Matter" reaction, for example. Black and blue flags hoisted by people who would be so-o-o indignant if you told them they were racists and would immediately start listing their 2 Black acquaintances as evidence that they were not racists, not them, no way.
It still makes me grind my teeth. And I am not Black.
