The government staffing - politicians, legislators, admins, managers, and support staff - is being increasingly gutted and replaced with barely mediocre, increasingly angry and delusional people. Not only is institutional knowledge about how things work being memory holed and wiped out, leading to increasing dysfunction, but the type of people being anointed to fill the voids are all to eager to accelerate the destruction.

The worst part is that they enjoy seeing us squirm. They enjoy being cruel.

They always have. Their brutality isn't just performative, either. Their sadism is baked into everything they do.

Let's not forget about them targeting our resources: The costs of things we need, and the availability of the things we need. They're going to put them out of reach of regular citizens and Black citizens in particular.

This is designed to get us desperate and to squeeze us. Really hard. Forcing us to resist oppression, rebel against the policies targeting us, and then they'll roll, armed and angry into our neighborhoods.

The outrage machine is well practiced at distracting us with the scandals and the political atrocities. Those political atrocities serve two purposes: enact horrible policies, codifying discrimination and violence and greed, and to focus attention away from the social engineering that's happening right now, under our noses.

Long dormant private prisons gathering weeds since the boom days of Reagan began staffing up in 2017. And continue. They're staffing them with people who are just this side of desperate, themselves.

Finding your pockets of joy is a great reminder.

Glad to see you and Tiffany under the same umbrella...it's gonna be lit! Congrats on this new 'village.' I'm all in with historians cause the 'why' keeps popping up with these current events, and we all know 'history repeats itself,' so I'ma trust your knowledge and writing skills to see me through for a minute...but, like Tiff, I'ma little scared.

Glad to hear your discussion and want to add that art and artists are often left out of conversations about joy, imagination, and resistance. Creative expression and the imagination that fuels artists’ work are integral to our existence.

So, now that we see what’s happening and what’s to come, what do we do other than talk about it? How do we fight? Our political leaders are silent, particularly our Black leadership. Clearly, they will not help. Do we collectively pressure them to speak up? Protesting will be dangerous for us, given him giving full immunity to the police. I believe many of us are looking for direction.

I resonate with this so deeply, Donna, and have been lamenting on the lack of clear leadership. Thank you for giving voice to this reality.

I believe we need to look into the role that Elon Musk is playing in this, not only has he inserted himself in United States politics, he has also inserted himself into Canada and Germany 's politics and all right wing backing. He was has a wealth of knowledge into AI and robotics. There is something big in play.

Speaking of hope, I'm sure many here have read Michael's, 'Black AF History'. If you haven't, I highly recommend you do. There's nothing like reading the un-whitewashed version of Black history in America to infuse hope into this current landscape. Learning the TRUE history of what our ancestors faced, navigated, and in many instances overcame, provides a formidable hope and strength as evidenced by the enemy's attempts to suppress it.

Thank you for speaking the truth and helping us realize we continue to have a role. Like you, Tiffany, I am not going anywhere.

I've been trying to find a healthy balance between staying informed and pursuing joy because, life Tiffany said, there is SO much to be absolutely terrified about. I know joy and community are going to be the means we stay connected to ourselves, but I am struggling with both, to be honest. I am looking forward to hearing and learning from the creatives, the dreamers, and the artists to help lead us into new worlds.
